Gerardo Ramos continues to be a prominent public advocate with regard to the plight of the Caribbean coral reefs and the fragile ecosystems associated with them.

Recent scientific studies list as many as six confirmed coral diseases in the Caribbean region alone; but many researchers estimate the numbers to be as high as fifteen.   

Gerardo has dedicated his adult life to increasing the public awareness of the importance and value
of the living coral reef and hopes to Increase the scientific and public understanding of the issues. 

Through his efforts, Gerardo hopes to strengthen his community-based ties and begin to re-plant  to coral reefs of his native Puerto Rico.
